Peregrine Falcon
Do you know what is the fastest animal on the planet?
Turns out it is the peregrine falcon with a shocking speed of 390 km perhour! They have white under parts with black spots, dark blue wings and big yellow eyes.
Since the peregrine falcon is very successful, it is one of the most common birds in the world. They live all over the planet except Antarctica. They mostly live where there are lots of shorebirds to hunt but still live from tundras to deserts. Some groups have even learned how to live on skyscrapers and bridges. In conclusion, the peregrine falcon lives in most places on earth.
Peregrine falcons have a generalist approach with their diet. This means they don't rely on one food source.Peregrine falcons eat meat, so they are carnivores. They eat bats, fishes, pigeons, seagulls and ducks. Basically,the peregrine falcons eat a variety of meat.
The peregrine falcon uses two ways to catch its bird prey. First, it flys up until it is very high in the sky then it swoops down and curls up, diving down head first. Then it just lets gravity do its job. After it catches up(note it is going at 390km per hour), it will punch its prey with its talons,the prey then drops down fresh meal for the falcon. Second, if that does not work, the falcon will swoop up from under and catch its prey. On the other hand, when falcones catch a fish, they just aim and use their talons to pluckit out of the water.
Peregrine falcons are pretty interesting creatures indeed. Next time maybe you can try looking on a skyscraper to see if there is a nest of a peregrine falcon.
